About Me

My name is Elizabeth Sullivan-Burton, and I’m a self-taught programmer.

I didn’t initially plan to get into programming–I started learning as a way to solve other problems. Initially, I was working in jobs where I only had Excel and needed to process large quantities of data in a way that I couldn’t easily do with its built-in functions. I started learning Microsoft VBA simply to make my life easier and avoid hours upon hours of tedious manual data processing.

Later on, I ended up in a job where there were several processes that took multiple hours and I knew there had to be a better way in this day and age. So, I learned some Python, enough to cut some of those tasks from 3 hours down to 30 minutes. I also got to use Microsoft Access for the first time, so I started learning some SQL. Hitting the limits of MS Access got me interested in PHP, and from there it was a slippery slope and I was hooked.

This site is both my portfolio and also a collection of tutorials–I learn things better when I force myself to write a tutorial on it. If you came here for tutorials, welcome and I hope you find it useful! Bear in mind, I’m just a student too, and although I do my best, it’s possible some information may be inaccurate or incomplete.
